In 1986, the Mayor’s Task Force on Substance Abuse challenged our community to reduce drug and alcohol use, especially among youth, through the South Brunswick Municipal Alliance Against Substance Abuse. With the support of the Alliance, the goal of the Healthy Communities – Healthy Youth Assets Initiative is for the South Brunswick community to build on its strengths and provide a healthy environment where youth thrive and substance abuse is prevented. The annual Charlene J. Austin Community Unity Day brought together children, teens and adults to build the feeling of community and to display the numerous strengths of South Brunswick, including asset building resources.  In the past the MMHP staff has been instrumental in organizing Community Unity Day.
