My husband's job relocated from Brooklyn, New York to Edison, New Jersey and he was commuting for three years when we decided to sell our nine-room brownstone and move into a mobile home. We looked at many mobile parks and decided on Monmouth Mobile Home Park.

Two of my three children came with us; my older son (23) had his own apartment in the city. My younger son (18) stayed exactly two weeks and decided this country living was not for him so he moved in with his brother. My daughter (14) stayed with us. (She had no choice.)

There were many adjustments to make. (May I add, all the better for me.) Such as two beds to make instead of four, one bathroom to clean instead of three, one straight floor instead of three flights of stairs. Not so good, added 15 pounds to my weight. Cleaning time for the mobile home was two hours in comparison to four hours for the nine rooms. And 20 minutes to work for my husband instead of 1 ½ hours.

Come this March, I will be here 19 years. My daughter in later years married and bought the mobile home next door. She lived here five years with her husband and my two grandsons. She has just bought a home and moved on. My two sons are married and they each have their own home.

I made a few minor adjustments to my kitchen (my husband laughed when I purchased a big kitchen table). What is a mother to do when three move out and ten come back? We all sit comfortably when they come for dinner. My two granddaughters from the city love to come and visit grandma and grandpa in the country.

Both my husband and I are retired. My husband loves to mow and trim the grass area, and putter in his shed.

I myself thought I made a wrong move 19 years ago but I know now that I did not. I am very happy here. The owner and the park employees maintain the park beautifully, and the seasonal decorations are the talk of the neighborhood.

I recommend anyone looking for an affordable way of living to try purchasing a mobile home. After all you may like it as well as we do.
