The Tree Lighting at Monmouth Mobile Home Park
A Story of Caring and Commitment
(Pictures Below)
I do not know that I have ever
been able to gaze upon our tree during the holiday season without shedding a
tear. I suspect much of that condition rests in the spirituality of our tree and
the tens of thousands of intricately woven white lights that so beautifully
adorn its limbs.
However, in the past several
years many of my feelings arise from the extraordinary effort of the two women
who have made a significant sacrifice to bring us this wonderful decoration.
Debbie gets up most mornings at
4:30 am so that she is able arrive at the Park and open the previous days mail
and possibly have time to do some of her work, which for the moment has gone
undone. When Diane arrives, generally at 6:00 am, both of the women begin the
task of stringing thousands upon thousands of linear feet of little lights. That
procedure is repeated day in and day out until the tree is completely decorated.
Most of the time they need to be coaxed down for lunch.
At the end of the day their
hands are dry and cracked from the weather. Diane’s hands have the additional
painful condition of hundreds of little red marks that result from being pricked
by the tree needles. (The tree decorating process does not lend itself to the
use of gloves.)
It is no wonder that I take
pride in the treatment of my employees, but, I have learned long ago…."You can
not pay someone to do what the heart will give for free."
(2007 Statistics: A 300 Amp Service for 114,601 White Lights; Approximately 9.0 Miles
of Lights and Extension Chords.)
Very truly yours,
